There are some young people, particularly those who have experienced a series of placement breakdowns, who are not ready to work in the small groups at Springboard Group Tutorial Units. These young people are often in residential provision. Individual tuition is provided for a minimum of one hour per day while plans are made for the young person’s educational future. This can include integration into a Springboard group or another appropriate provision as identified by Springboard and relevant agencies.

If required, Springboard can support the carers by taking responsibility for all educational matters relating to the young person in their care.

After placement, the young person may be introduced to an interim program of education and activities while their educational history, attainment, interests, wishes and needs are assessed.

Options of Individual Tuition, Group Tutorial Unit, mainstream and special school provision will all be considered, and an individual plan will be put in place. A teacher with special responsibility liaises regularly with the carers to monitor progress and re-evaluate the plan.

Individual tuition is offered on a daily basis at designated premises, where distractions are kept to a minimum. Hourly sessions are provided by qualified teachers with a variety of subject expertise. Each teacher and young person are supported by a member of the carer’s team. The young person is involved in planning his/her weekly educational program.
