Springboard Intervention - Behaviour Management
Springboard supports pupils who display a wide variety of behaviours, but does not accept them as inevitable and unchangeable. Pupils behavioural needs are supported through individualised planned intervention.
We aim to positively reinforce acceptable behaviours.
The culture at Springboard focuses on promoting good citizenship through the establishment and internalisation of socially acceptable and appropriate patterns of behaviour.
Through an individualised approach in a consistent, nurturing and supportive environment, each pupil is given opportunities to develop their skills, qualities and self-esteem.
Springboard’s positive behaviour management will promote pupil empowerment as their confidence, ability and self-control is enhanced.
Children are encouraged to develop appropriate behaviour patterns in an atmosphere of trust and respect. There is a warm caring attitude in adult-child relationships together with individual and group therapeutic intervention and the systematic use of incentives. Children are respected as individuals and this facilitates personal and social growth.
Springboard’s caring community promotes and values the differences and diversity in society.
Discipline at Springboard is directed towards maintaining a secure, happy, friendly and courteous environment in which young people are able to learn without distraction or interference.
We operate a system of rewards for students that is aimed at positive encouragement but from time to time we may have to use various sanctions when a student’s behaviour or attitude causes disharmony within our school community.
Unless behaviour is extreme, warnings should be issued and the young person should be helped to understand which behaviours will be sanctioned. Any member of staff may decide to exclude a young person if necessary and should expect full support from other staff. The exclusion will be discussed in a staff meeting to promote a consistent culture and approach. Parents and carers are involved in the reintegration process to promote improved behaviour.
All Springboard staff are highly trained in de-escalating conflict and are qualified in techniques approved by C.P.I. and SchoolSafe. Springboard’s Discipline & Exclusion Policy is available on request, as are policies relating to Bullying, Child Protection, Health & Safety, the Promotion of Good Behaviour and Sanctions. The Complaints Procedure, along with information concerning the number of complaints registered under the formal procedure, is also available on request.
